I Heart Carlisle

Human settlements there pre-date the Romans. The city has not changed its name in 2000 years. There were Romans there, then Anglo-Saxons, then Danes, then the Normans, and so on. They have a castle and actual gates to the city, pictured above.

And there’s Cumberland sausage at The Sportsman Inn:

The Cumberland sausage is a large sausage that is cut off from a larger, more continuous sausage. It is Cumbria’s gift to the culinary world.
