Last Saturday K and I were invited by some friends to the India Canada Association of Montreal’s annual banquet, held at, naturally, the Hellenic Community Centre. It was in honour of the 50th anniversary of the association as well as Indian Independance Day. The affair was like any other multicultural community dinner: speeches, music, awards, local celebrities, and, of course, the food. Oh, the food…

I think what sets this particular dinner apart is the dancing. As stereotypical anglophone male, I do not dance, nor do I wish to be around those who do. Generally, they make me uncomfortable. But a group of gentlemen came out to perform Bhangra dancing, which actually looked like a lot of fun. And while I do not care for dance music, the beat-heavy Bhangra music is pretty cool. If dancing and dance music were more like that, I’d probably be into it a little more.

Also in attendance, was Minister of the Environment Stéphane Dion. He did not dance.
