Would you believe…?

Steve Carell, currently seen almost stealing the movie Anchorman from Will Ferrell, has been tapped to take on the lead role of Secret Agent 86 in the movie adaptation of Get Smart. While I think the idea of yet another 1960’s TV sit-com adapted in a film has pretty much run its course (see: Bewitched), I really like this idea. “Get Smart” was a great, funny show and Carell is one of those untapped comic actors who has yet to find his own vehicle. Sure, Produce Pete with Steve Carell is recockulously funny but you can pretty much guarantee the US adaptation of The Office will likely disappear from the radar, I think he needs something to showcase his particular talents. A bumbling secret agent who communicates via his shoe could be just the thing.

While Buck Henry and Mel Brooks wrote scripts for the original series, there’s no word yet on who will be writing this one.
