Other than that, it was a perfectly fine Monday morning…

And this week’s award for Stupidest Celebrity Baby Name goes to Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow, proud parents of their new baby girl, Apple.

Congratulations, “Apple.” You may now join the ranks of other stupidly named celebrity children like Romeo and Brooklyn Beckham, Poppy Honey Jools and her sister, Daisy Oliver, Rumer Glenn, Scout Larue, and Tallulah Belle Willis, Indio Downey, and Piper Maru Anderson. Maybe they could all go to the same school or something so that they don’t all get beat up by their classmates.

  1. Michel: (wow, hate this commenting thing).
You forgot Hanaani (something) Tiger Lily. Poor thing, though, lost both parents.

  2. That’s Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily Hutchence-Yates to you, pal. And don’t forget the Paula Yates’ other kids with Sir Bob Geldolf: Fifi Trixiebelle, Peaches Honeyblossom, and Little Pixie. I can’t help but wonder if at the time they did up their birth certificates, the person at the hospital just looked at the parents and sighed, “Oh you fucking assholes…”

  3. Me again: There was a rumour in F’ton, that some guy in Saint John had named his girls Suzuki & Kawazaki.
    And what’s wrong with Fifi?

  4. I am a believer that names are very important things, and that having a distinctive name is a good thing. That said, I too find myself raising an eyebrow or two with greater frequency of late as friends and co-workers come up with “out there” names. I’ve begun to wonder if it isn’t some psychological fallout from company names become more and more obscure and manufactured words as a result of all normal words having already been taken in cyberspace.

I actually would be less quick to eyebrow raise if people would at least offer us a back-story or other explanation for these names. Like, I gotta believe (or at least I hope) there is a story behind choosing the name Apple; and maybe, just maybe, if I knew the story I’d think the name was less weird. Then again, that’s probably just crazy talk.

  5. I went to school with a Summer, Pebbles, Sunshine and Princess I thought those weird odd… but Apple? Geez…

  6. Re: Suzuki and Kawasaki. Yeah I used to drink with those dudes. Okay, not really…

Haven’t heard of those two but I do know there is a little girl running around Saint John with the name Placentia. Her mother, drugged up during delivery, apparently heard the doctors speaking about the placentia and thought it was a pretty name.
