“I pledge allegiance… to the band… of Mr. Schneebly… and will not fight him… for creative control… and will defer to him on all issues related to the musical direction of the band.” – The School of Rock
Now this looks like a good idea. In April, the CBC will run a show called “Rock Camp” in which several 18 year old aspiring Alex Lifesons and Melissa Auf der Maurs attend a programme devoted to teaching them the basics of rocking and/or rolling. One of the camp counsellors is Joel Plaskett whose new CD is not too shabby. Other instructors include Robin Black on Glam Rock 101. The finale will be hosted by FUBAR’s Terry and the Deaner (“just giver!”). The winning band gets an EMI recording contract. So basically it’s “Canadian Idol” but with the added novelty of writing their own songs and playing their own instruments.
