I haven’t been blogging many celebrity deaths recently but I think this one is notable: Gene Anthony Ray, who played Leroy in the Fame movie and spin-off TV series, has died of a stroke at age 41. He was the character, if you’ll recall, who had issues with purchasing dancing tights for fear of looking foolish.
I didn’t watch the series too much (I remember character named Coco and a stand-up comic but that’s about it) but the movie was actually pretty good. I think the main reason for that is that it was directed by Alan Parker and despite being a movie about teenagers who spontaneously break into song, it had a nice gritty, naturalistic feel to it.
Dare I say it? Remember his name.
