i guess it’s all in context

The Toronto Star has a sympathetic take on the recent news surrounding the ‘Star Wars kid’. For those who are familiar with the story, you know that a videotape of a high-school kid Quebec, recreating Darth Maul in “The Phantom Menace,” got leaked on the internet and he got ridiculed for it. What? The people humiliating this guy haven’t done anything similiar? The guy committed the worse crime imaginable in high school: being enthusiastic for something that’s not socially sanctioned among the higher cliques.

Which leads me to my question. Why are these guys not losers:

And the Star Wars kid is? Explain how.

There was an episode of “Seinfeld” where Elaine’s boyfriend Puddy embarassed her by painting his face before attending a hockey game. His reasoning: “support the team.”

That’s all the Star Wars kid is doing. He’s supporting the team.
